SubjectRebuilder is creating incomplete romsets new Reply to this message

Roman, thank you for the tips in email! I decided to take my latest problem to the forum so I'm not burdening you as directly. :-)

My MAME rom collection consists of 668 zipfiles. Almost all of these are 'not merged' roms -- each file contains the complete set of roms for a game, without depending on parent romsets. I've deleted lots of clones. I want to make sure I've got rid of all the clone roms I don't need, so I'm using the Rebuilder on my collection with 'No Merging' selected.

I'm having two problems with the Rebuilder. One is that it's creating incomplete clone zipfiles when it shouldn't be creating clones at all, because I don't have the clone roms for a set. For example: I start with '19xx.zip' which contains 20 romfiles (all the roms needed for the game, none of the clone roms). I run it through the Rebuilder with 'No Merging' turned on, and then my destination folder contains '19xx.zip' with 20 romfiles in it, and '19xxh.zip' '19xxj.zip' '19xxjr1.zip' with only 12 roms in each -- the twelve which are common to the parent. Of course, these clone zipfiles aren't playable, since they're missing the clone roms. (Roman, this is the same problem I was having with the Merger, but it's still happening now that I'm using the Rebuilder!)

The other problem I'm having with the Rebuilder is that it runs for just a minute or two, processing a couple of zipfiles and getting to maybe 1% or 2% in its progress bar, then it gives me the dialog telling me that it's finished and showing me the statistics. If I dismiss that dialog then click 'Rebuild' again then it processes a few more zipfiles then again says it's done. I have to keep restarting it.

Am I doing something wrong? Thanks for any tips!

You don't understand how the rebuilder works. It doesn't know about set-completeness. It rebuilds anything it finds to the correct set. If 10 sets share one prom e.g., the prom will be added to all 10 sets..even if you originally only had one of them with that prom.

EH????

Sounds totally weird...no idea what you're doing. As long as you don't cancel the rebuild, it'll go through all sourcefiles and the counter reaches 100%. If you use multiple addpaths as rebuilder's source, the counter will reach 100% for each path and the path's number is shown in the title bar.

ooopsi..there might be a problem with the crc32 calculation in 3.02.3...
I will take a look at it...maybe it effects the rebuilder as well.

Aha... gotcha! Now I'm clued in. Thanks. :)

So... if I want to generate ONLY non-merged zipfiles which are complete (no non-complete clone sets)... there's no way for ClrMamePro to do this, currently?

Sure there is ;) First you should only enable the sets you want/have. Settings->Sets. Then use the rebuilder. It will only create the sets / adds to the sets which are enabled.

...ClrMamePro is more for the pokemon effect..You gotta have them all (the romsets) ;)

Gotcha. ;)

Another question... is there any way to get ClrMamePro to tell me whether I have any roms missing *in the zips which I currently have*? Right now when I do a scan, it tells me about all the roms that I'm missing in all the games I don't have... can I limit it to only paying attention to the games I *do* have, and making sure I have all the roms I need for them?

(Yeah, I know I can tell it specifically what games I have, like you mentioned up above... but I was hoping I wouldn't have to go in and set that manually!)

By the way, I figured out why I wasn't getting any 'missing rom' errors earlier -- I had that option turned off. *blushes* I'm not sure how it got turned off.

Settings->Sets-> click on 'available sets'
