3.40 28-Jun-2004

- XML support readded
- xerces-c_2_5_0.dll is now needed and included in the current package.
- MAME, PINMAME and MESS engines use -listxml now.
- 'engine.cfg' has to be replaced with the one in this package.
- added enginetype OLD_MAME for MAME versions without -listxml.
- removed some entries from engine.cfg

A new engine.cfg will show you prompts for each and any profile which was
created/loaded with the old engine.cfg.

Little PinMAME (1.32.001) issue:
Current PinMAME got a '&' character in one romname, causing xml importing
to fail since it has to be coded as '&'. This should be fixed with the
next PinMAME version. If you still want to use ClrMamePro with current
PINMAME, you have to change engine.cfg's PINMAME entry back to
"command -listinfo".

What's the advantage / need for XML?

Aaron removed -listinfo in upcoming MAME .84, so you won't be able to directly receive the needed romdata via that option. But MAME also got a -listxml command which outputs the data in XML. With this update, ClrMAMEPro is able to parse that output.

Hi Roman!

Is there any tool available which gets as an input the new -listxml datfile and converts it back to the old -listinfo format?

Thank you

better question, why remove -listinfo in the 1st place?

i'm sure there's a good reason for it, i just can't think of one right now.

OK, I'm dumb!
official mame distribution contains a piece of software by the name of: XML2INFO, which obviously translate xml back to info.

Well....xml is a real language while -listinfo output was more a taglist....imo xml is useless for mame...the output is far less readable and overloaded....but hey..who cares ;)

I hope Loqix updates his programs MameDiff and DatUtil to work with XML. I kind of like to use SortInfo once in a while, too. It also requires a -listinfo output.

In fact Logiqx is the reason why Aaron dropped -listxml. Mike (Logiqx) fixed xml2info and so -listinfo became rather obsolete....and he also updated all his tools some time ago, too.
