SubjectCannot save fix.dat file... new Reply to this message

I am having problems saving a fix.dat file. I'm running v3.40c of clrMAME. I have all my rom paths, sample paths, and add paths defined (and my dat file loaded). I perform the scan, then attempt the Save->Fix-Datfile. I am prompted with the "Save as" window and enter a filename. I click the Save button and the window disappears. No file is saved.

I read an earlier post about deleting the cmpro.ini file. I've deleted that, as well as contents of clrMAME cache, fastscans, logs, scans, settings, and temp folder. I rebooted and launched clrMAME, checked my settings and scanned . Went to save the fix datfile but no file was saved again.

The strange thing is I had this work 2 days ago. I did this a couple of times and saved just fine. I was prompted for a filename and the file was saved. Now, no prompting of filename after the "Save as" window.

I even disabled my virus scanner just in case that was the culprit (alas, it was not).

Any ideas on this one? I suppose my next step would be to uninstall and reinstall, but I want to run this by everybody first.

Most likely the prompt where you have to enter a description is shown behind the other windows. Check that. Otherwise it's some access (read/write rights) problems with the folder/drive you want to save the file to.
The routine hasn't changed for hmmm...2 years or something...and it works fine.

Those are two ideas that I had also. However, I have no other windows open...only clrMAME. I minimize the scanner and results windows and don't have the description box anywhere. In fact, I minimize the scanner window, shrink the results window and try and save and never get the description box.

As for the permissions problem, I'm on Windows 2000, logged in as Administrator. I've tried saving to the local c: drive, a folder in clrMAME, a temp folder, and a few others. I've even tried to save to various network drives. I've checked security settings and I have full access to everything.

All a bust...

Well, looks like a re-install I suppose.

Don't minimize, move instead.

Ok, you were right. Moving everything out of the way allowed me to see the description box.

Doh...sometimes it's the simplest things.

Thanks for the help.
