Any project that stays on one platform becomes "engrained" in the libraries/features of that particular OS over time. There's nothing wrong with that, especially if cross-porting was never an intention.
I'm fairly certain that opening the source will attract a lot of attention, and even if it is "ugly" there's plenty of people out there who'll take the time to help neaten it up pre-porting.
You'd be surprised how many people will gladly work on a project like this for free, just to help out.
Anyways, I'm glad the answer wasn't a flat-out "no" to the idea at least. I know I'll be following this package for a while, so I'm looking forward to whatever it is that you're cooking up. :)
