SubjectRoms folder "disappeared" new Reply to this message

My roms folder seems to have disappeared!

Here's the thing:
- I just used ClrMame Pro, and everything seemed to work okay.
- I'm using Mame32 0.88
- Even though I can't see the folder (there is literally an empty space where it used to be) the games WILL load. But from where? The filepath has not changed!?

Has anybody encountered this before?

What I know:
- it's not a "hidden" or "read only" file.
- when I click on properties of my Mame folder, it tells me the number of folders is 22, though I count 21. i.e: 21+ my invisible roms folder....
- With ClrMame Pro, I basically followed the instructios found here:
http://www.mameworld.net/easyemu/
- I did not do any Rebuilding or merging, merely scanning and fixing.

Hopefully someone can help me out.

ClrMamePro doesn't do anything to the rompath settings. It uses the one listed under settings->rompaths (be sure the treeview there is opened). It doesn't hide or protect the folders.

Any ideas at all as to what may have happened?

No...and I'm not sure if I understand you right.
You got a MAME32 installation with roms stored in rompath XYZ.
You've setup rompath XYZ in ClrMamePro->Settings->Rompaths, scanned...fixed..blablba...
After that you don't see XYZ on your harddisk anymore but MAME32 loads the files from XYZ?

...or do I miss something?

I'll explain as best as I can, step by step.

I have Mame32 installed as "c:/mame32" (folder). In that folder is my roms folder - or was, but we'll get to that.

Naturally, when I startup Mame, the path specified to load roms is "c:/mame32/roms/name_of_rom". So basically what I'm saying is that I haven't changed a thing.

I recently upgraded from Mame32 .67 to Mame32 .88. That installation went fine. THEN, I tried out ClrMame Pro - scanned and basic fixes, as explained in the earlier post.

That seemed to work just fine, but then I notice: my roms folder has disappeared. Did a search - doesn't show up anywhere on my system at all.

BUT the roms must be there somehow, because Mame has no trouble at all loading them! Doing some further checking, I have determined that the file has not been rendered "invisible" by way of "hidden" or "write-only" file type. The final boggling thing? When I dheck the properties of my Mame32 folder, it COUNTS the file as there - as I posted earlier, 22 instead of the visible 21 - it just doesn't SHOW it.

Bizarre, eh?

I wouldn't even care - hey, it works, right? - but where do I put additional roms?

Hopefully that was clear. I'm not blaming ClrMame Pro, just seems too much of a coincidence, don't you think?

Matt

Sounds very bizarre. Never heard of anything like this. ClrMamePro doesn't do anything to the rompath itself. It only fixes files IN rompaths. Maybe you have to refresh the path/view in the explorer window or some other task's hiding it. I have no idea. Try to check if you can change to the folder from a console window.

Start->run->cmd.exe (or command.exe if you're using Win9x/WinME and not Windows2k/XP)
then enter:
c:
cd c:\mame32\roms
dir
