SubjectClrMAME newbie question new Reply to this message

Hi, I'm trying to complete my mame collection, with the help of clrmame. The miss.txt list is great and I'm almost finished with that, but I have a lot of .zips with missing roms making the games unplayable - obviously. So my question is...how can I delete all of the non-working .zips through clrmame so they can be seen in the missing.txt file? Or is there a way to generate a seperate non-working list?

The have/miss lists are just quick'n dirty settests. Still wonder why I included them :) Use the scanner with full check options to really see what's wrong with your collection. There you can also select "delete->all listed incomplete sets" via the popupmenu after a scan.
If you only want to check the files you need, you can disable all the other sets. Press Settings->sets->available sets to enable only your current ones.

Is there anyway to genreate a list of what I see in the scanner window? I want to create a list of all bad roms so I can redownload them. I jsut don't want to have to go through the list manual, it's a really long list.

Sure...enable logfile saving :) or rightclick the tree and chose save or copy to clipboard.
You can even directly download files...for that you should edit urls.ini (or urls01.ini..urls10.ini) before the start of ClrMamePro...enter your own topsecret download places there...

I just need the game names though, not all the extra information.. Maybe this will help explain myself, I have about 400 non-working roms. I want to be able to make a list (like the one that the miss.txt makes) where all that is inputed is the game name. I need this to make a text file that I can use with IRC. This way I don't have to manually download each individual game. (if it can be avoided.) I'm trying to make a dcc list. Clrmame doesn't delete the games where a couple of roms are missing from the file. It keeps them, and I can't figure out a way to generate a simple list, or somehow auto-edit (with a text editor) the log file that gives all the detailed info.

Thanks for your help.

Let me try to understand here. So you are scanning roms and a game pops up but it has missing or bad roms in the zip file, a Red X next to the name.

But when you hit the "Miss List" button it doesn't show that game in the list cause in reality you have it but some roms are bad.

But you also don't want to save it as a "Log" file cause now there is to much info there cause it list the game AND the missing/bad roms. Editing it would take to long for you.

So you just want an option where if you have the game BUT there could be missing/bad roms you want to list this as a "Miss List" game?

Like if I took out some Roms from Donkey Kong. It will tell me what Roms I am missing. But if I hit the "Miss List" that game won't show....

You are missing 0 of 4032 known Mame 0.71 sets (+ BIOS sets)

But if I make a log then it makes this....

Donkey Kong (Japan set 2) [folder: dkongjo - parent: dkong]
missing rom: c_5f_b.bin [size: 4096] [CRC32: 0x424f2b11] [SHA1: e4f096f2bbd37281f42a5f8e083738f55c07f3dd] [MD5: -]

Donkey Kong (Japan set 3) (bad dump?) [folder: dkongjo1 - parent: dkong]
missing rom: c_5f_b.bin [size: 4096] [CRC32: 0x424f2b11] [SHA1: e4f096f2bbd37281f42a5f8e083738f55c07f3dd] [MD5: -]

Donkey Kong (Japan set 1) [folder: dkongjp - parent: dkong]
missing rom: c_5f_b.bin [size: 4096] [CRC32: 0x424f2b11] [SHA1: e4f096f2bbd37281f42a5f8e083738f55c07f3dd] [MD5: -]

Donkey Kong (US set 2) [folder: dkongo - parent: dkong]
missing rom: c_5f_b.bin [size: 4096] [CRC32: 0x424f2b11] [SHA1: e4f096f2bbd37281f42a5f8e083738f55c07f3dd] [MD5: -]
missing rom: tkg3c.5k [size: 4096] [CRC32: 0x553b89bb] [SHA1: 61611df9e2748fdcd31821038dcc0e16dc933873] [MD5: -]

As you can see it shows the games that are bad and need fixing. But you don't want this you just want the list of the bad game.

So instead you want it to list it like this in the "Miss List"???

Donkey Kong (US set 1)
Donkey Kong (Japan set 2)
Donkey Kong (Japan set 3) (bad dump?)
Donkey Kong (Japan set 1)
Donkey Kong (US set 2)

Don't think Roman is going to go through the trouble to make a list of missing/bad roms with just game names. At least if he does it is the very last on his list.

I sugest either manually edit it, make your own parsing program to create what you want, or use Excel to modify the log file, was pretty easy on my end. I just Delimited with a "[" and deleted a chunk of it. Then just deleted the rows inbetween each game.

I know I'll probably get flack for this from everybody here, but the only solution to my problem was to use Rom Center, their missing.txt list gives me all the games with errors as well as those that I don't have yet. Just a recommendation for a future build then; to have the miss.txt file input the games with errors in it too.

But Clr does post the games with the errors and those you don't have. All you do is right click in the sanner area and select "Save Log". It will save it just like I shown with the errors.

If you keep all your games Split then it will list everything you don't have. If merge it will tell you what is the parent and tell you what Rom you need for any clones.

Just edit out the bottom stats. Plus Romcenter doesn't always give you accurate read. It will tell you your missing something and you have it. Plus if you like your bios file seperate, it doesn't show this. It will tell you your missing the file for each game that uses it, in my case at least.

Personly when I update my Roms and there are errors I just download the entire new game again, I don't look for 1 Rom or 2 I may be missing. I just look at the zip name of the game, look it up and download it since it will have the files I need. I have my settings merge and it will put those Roms with the parent set. I just go down the list 1 by 1 and then rescan. May take a little time if a lot are missing but it's efficent and I know I am getting the right stuff.

I know that I get a list with clrmame in the log file but it's too cluttered for what I need. I download using dcc in irc so I need to make a huge list that reads like this

get sprint2.zip
get sptrekct.zip
get sqbert.zip
get srdmissn.zip
get srmp4.zip
get ssanchan.zip
get sscandal.zip
get ssf2.zip
get ssf2a.zip
get ssf2ar1.zip

You can see the problem I would have if there is any extra information in the txt file. I am using split game files. The problem is I don't want to have to download each game indivdually, I would like to download a whole lot of them at once. At the same time though, this option I'm sure would be useful to others. You're right about redownloading the roms to replace bad/non-working ones. That's what I'm trying to do with this list. I think the only thing I would improve about clrmame is that it not only give you the detailed log file, but for it to also have an option to simplify the logfile or have the option to make a seperate basic txt list of bad/non-working games. Which could be possibly included in the missing.txt option already in clrmame.

Ok that's what I figure what you wanted, but more simplified than to edit all the extra text. Well 2 things can be done then.

1. Do as an option request, as you did, to Roman and maybe he will add it to his "To do" list and add it in the future.

2. Use Romcenter to make your list and then use ClrMame to scan the final product.

I used to use both of them cause I like how Romcenter has the Tree Explorer view and combined my Roms. But after using it for some time I notice it was corupting some files and not reading everything right. Then Roman gave me a tip on adding new Roms and I find it easier to use now in conjuction with ZipMax.

That's easy to generate in CMPro. Simply add "get" to your urls.ini and chose "Save->Missing List incl. Url+Extension".

I alread told him that such a list can be easily generated using the "save list with url + extension" option.
He only has to edit the urls.ini first to add his prestring.

Yea I know after I posted my sugestion, Tigerj 07/20/03 00:14 AM, Roman 07/21/03 03:55 AM :P. Didn't even think about the URL in the ini file, clever.

I wonder with all the options and litle tricks in your progy, how many take full advantage of it? I know I sure learn some new things and I been using it for about 2+ years now if my memory is right.
