The rebuilder doesn't know anything about a 'backuppath'. So sounds like you're using the cmpro backup path as rebuilder/source (or it's a subfolder of your source) and got 'remove rebuilt sourcefiles' enabled. That option also deletes empty source(sub)folders. So turn the 'remove' option off or use a different path.

Hi Roman,

I hope that you can help clarify whether or not my understanding is correct.

IF i was to update my current ROMset to the most recent MAME release, I would download all of the new/changed ROM(set)s into a directory called "add ROMs".

I then use Rebuilder to "Merge" these into my existing ROMsets, and if I disable the "Remove Rebuilt Sourcefiles" option, my originals remain intact.

Next, I move to Scanner mode, and if I check "Fix Unneeded", any file surplus to requirements will be moved to the directory specified in Settings, "Make Backups To Folder".

In short, there are two separate issues with the original post:

1. Removal/preservation of the original downloaded Sourcefiles

2. Preservation of the files no longer required.

Cheers matey, great util.

ok

The originals in the source. Which should point to that "add roms" folder. The destination should point to your existing old collection.

Eh?????

There are 2 ways to add new files to your existing clean collection. One is the rebuilder and the other is scanner's fixmissing.

The rebuilder is usually faster. As said before it has to be configured the following way: Source: points to new collected, not verified, not cleaned roms. Destination has to point to the old verified collection.

Scanner's fixmissing searches defined Addpaths for missing files. It uses a different method to detect the files.

The rebuilder is fully hashbased and should be prefered.

Hi Roman,

Thanks for the swift reply, and sorry it has taken me so long to get back, I just wanted to make sure that the post I tried yesterday didn't go through!!!

I should have mentioned that I am currently rolling back from MAME87 to MAME37b14 for my friends PII, so my interest isn't just in adding the new ROMs, but keeping the leftovers so that should I need to rollback in the future, I have all of the bits that I need.

E.G. kof95 works perfectlu on MAME87, but on MAME37b14, I am missing the following:

kof95 : kof95_v1.rom 4194304 bytes 21469561 NOT FOUND
kof95 : kof95_c1.rom 4194304 bytes 33bf8657 NOT FOUND
kof95 : kof95_c2.rom 4194304 bytes f21908a4 NOT FOUND
kof95 : kof95_c3.rom 4194304 bytes 0cee1ddb NOT FOUND
kof95 : kof95_c4.rom 4194304 bytes 729db15d NOT FOUND

If when upgrading from 58 to 59, I had kept these unnecessary parts, the rollback would have been successful.

Cheers matey,

Well...1st of all I'm one of the guys who say: use the current version of mame, screw the rest ;)

The Rebuilder got an advanced option to keep a copy of exisiting files. So when it decideds to replace one, you'll get a copy of the old one in your backupfolder.
