The merger is one of the oldest, not modified parts in cmpro. Over the years it became rather obsolete.

The scanner can already move files to their belonging parent/clone sets if you change the mergemode. So that's basically "merging".

The rebuilder works differently. It's more an "adder". It scans a source, tries to match files with the database and creates or adds files in the destination with the right name. Of course this can be used to change the mergemode, too, but it requires twice the diskspace since source and destination can't be the same. It's very fast on the other hand (esp. when recompression is turned off).

In fact I don't see any use for the merger anymore. If I scan collections, I use the scanner to do all the fixing and the rebuilder to do the add-new-files part (e.g. by drag&drop in the scan window + automatic fastscan afterwards).

The merger also got a big minus: All roms have to be fine before you change the mergemode.


So...stick with the rebuilder and scanner 8)
