SubjectSuggestion about fixdatfiles Reply to this message

Fixdatfiles created with CMPro have the category FIXDATFILE, and whenever CMPro loads a file with this category, you can't use the scanner with it, just the rebuilder. But, I don't like using the rebuilder, and I'm more comfortable using the scanner. Moreover, how do you know that you've filled completely a fixdatfile if you can't use the scanner to check if there's something missing? Maybe I'm using a fixdatfile without having a complete set myself. In the end, I edit the category for all fixdatfiles which fall in my hands, including some created by me. And I'm not the only one who does this, apparently.

In short, I suggest that there's a way for users to disable the fixdatfile warning when entering the scanner, and that CMPro allows us to use fixdatfiles in the scanner. Maybe a checkbox in the Misc. Profile Options, or maybe in the Settings dialog (so you have to activate it individually for each fixdatfile).

Agreed also. The other restrictions are fine (e.g. not being able to tick 'Remove Rebuilt Files'), but to be able to scan the files to see if you have filled the entire dat would be very handy.

SK.

I will do some brainstorming about it.

after thinking about some possibilities, i think this could be a good way of changing the fixdatfile feature:
each time cmpro loads a new/updated datfile, it checks if it's a fixdatfile. if so, a normal yes/no dialog is presented to the user, with yes as default, and a message similar to "this is a fixdatfile, do you want to apply the normal restrictions? (don't ask 'no' if you don't know what are you doing)"
