(I know the original poster is not advocating anything, just relaying info, but comments are intended for everyone who thinks this is great news)

This link should be removed. Haze has made it abundantly clear that derivative works such as this have no business being made. This violates SO MUCH of the Mame licence it's appalling.

Check out Haze's rather venomious (rightfully so) response on mameworld regarding this gem:
http://www.mameworld.info/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=33268&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1&vc=1&new=1114471436

Mame will NEVER support 7z because it is: SLOW and MEMORY HOG to decompress, It is questionable about it's own license and ability to use it in other products. It is NOT a stable scheme yet, still undergoing change.

If size is important to someone (and time and power isn't) they can use rezipping tools and all the tight zippers out there to save some space. but don't expect Mame to implement WinZip 9 BZip / Deflate64 compression and other non-standard stuff either any time soon.

Realize it this way.... Most people are illegal with Mame as it is, therefore they have no reason to help making your massive 8 DVD collection "smaller" by a factor of a single CD at most. Those that are using Mame legally (or grey-area depending on how you interpret copyright laws) (with ownership of original game boards) then that 20K pacman file compressing to 19K just doesn't seem important to waste a ton of people's time to squeeze out that extra bit when you only have a few "legal" roms anyway.

Everyone should be DA__ glad that they implemented zip compression as it is, and be happy.
