SubjectCan ClrMAMEPro remove comments? Reply to this message

The version I'm using (3.73) doesn't seem to support such an option.

Many sites add comments to their files when they put them up for download. Could it be possible to add an option to ClrMAME to remove comments?

Thanks!

That's not a task for clrmamepro.
Zipmax does remove comments though.

...and if you always use the rebuilder (or scanner's fix-missing) to add new files (instead of manual copying them to a romfolder), you get rid of them as well.

Never heard of that. I was hoping for a tool that automates the removal of comments instead of having to go through each and every one of them...

... uh. I add missing roms to zipfiles every so often (like whenever a new version of MAME comes out) and the comment remains. Hence, my question.

Still... thanks.

Look at the download page 8)

Rebuilder and Scanner's fixmissing add files without comments. If you got zipfile comments, you put the original zipfile which got the comment in your rompath. Since the rebuilder/fixmissing only adds stuff, you still got the comment from the 1st manual addition.

We talk about zip-file-comments here, do we? Not some fancy NTFS filesystem comments......

... WTF are NTFS comments? O_o I meant comments in regular ZIP files. If you use CLRMame to add files to a zip that has a comment, the comment remains (obviously). If you create a zipfile by using the rebuilder, there are no comments. That much I gathered from your comments.

I'll take a look at Zipmax. Thanks!

Filesystems usually have an option to setup comments....

ok

Nope. Adding files with clrmamepro means you either use fix missing or the rebuilder. In both cases comments are removed because the files get unzipped from the found source (e.g. backupfolder, addpaths or rebuildersources) and zipped to the (possibly existing) zipfiles in your rompath.

A comment only survives if you have a zipfile with a comment in your rompath already. But that would mean you haven't used the rebuilder or fixmissing and you manually moved a zip in your rompath once upon a time.....
