SubjectHow do I use clrmamepro to manage snapshots? new Reply to this message

I have about 400 romsets in my collection. How do I use clrmamepro to make sure that I have a screen snapshot for each romset, but that I don't bother with snapshots for romsets that I don't have?

I see how I can download a MAME32 Snaps datfile from clrmame.com, but I don't see how to tie it to my romset collection - that datfile wants to make sure I have every possible snapshot, without caring if I don't have the romset in question.

Simply do the same thing as for roms. Get the snaps (or flyers or whatever datfile), setup rompaths (in this case they point to sets of picture files) and scan. Or use the rebuilder in the usual way.

Always keep in mind the standard scan modes:

rompath\setname\rom 1 ... rom n (for unzipped sets)
rompath\setname.zip for zipped sets.

So if you look at the snapshots datfile you'll see that it only got one set called "snap" which contains all pngs.
So if you keep the snapshots zipped in e.g. D:\mame\snapshots\snap.zip the rompath is d:\mame\snapshots

If you keep them unzipped, you have to put them in a folder called "snap". So for unzipped files in d:\mame\snapshots\snap\005.png etc the rompath is again d:\mame\snapshots

If you want to limit your scan/rebuild to the sets you have, you can use settings->sets to enable/disable sets you like.

Well...that's the general way. Your request is a bit different because it sounds like YOU want to make screenshots and want to match them directly to romsets. A datfile is usually for some pre-made snapshots collections and not directly related to romsets (of course the romsetnames match the png filenames though).

Maybe you should look at Logiqx's tool ImgChk, too.

Thanks for the instructions. What I'm interested in is limiting my scan/rebuild to only the romsets I have. There's no way to do this automatically, do I have to check/uncheck the list in Settings by hand?

(I have about 400 romsets that I've whittled down by hand, and I only want the screenshots for these out of the MAME32 Snaps collection. I don't want to waste disk space on the rest.)

You can limit the sets by clicking on "available sets" in the settings window, after switching to "sets".
But that's a in-place-option. If you added new sets, you have to press that button again.
I usually advice to always scan all sets (not setting any limit). If people want to get rid of the millions of "missing set" lines, they can hide them by disabling the scanner's popupmenu option "show all missing sets".

That's not working for me... I load the MAME32 Snaps collection, I go into Settings, I select "Sets" from the pulldown, and all it shows me is "snap ". If I click the "Avail. Games" button, then "snap " gets uncheckmarked. I don't see where I can have it acknowledge my romsets while I have the MAME32 Snaps datfile loaded.

I'm thinking ClrMamePro isn't cut out to do what I'm looking for, so I'd like to file this as a request for the next version - I'd like 'snapshots' to be one of the things handled by scanning and rebuilding romsets.

That's because the datfile uses only one set....you'd need a different datfile or modify the existing one. The datfile specifies the layout.

It won't happen or better...it already works well with external datfiles.
If you want to enable/disable single 'sets', you need a datfile which uses one set per png.
