How do I go about creating a set of ROMs based on a fix-datfile? I backed up my ROMs to DVD-R, and I'd like to create an update CD containing only the changes instead of having to back everything up again. So I ran clrmame against my backup to create a list of changed ROMs, and now I need to copy those out of the ROMs on my hard drive to a second directory so I can back them up.

automatic fixdat creation is enabled by default iirc. They're placed in cmpro's fixdatfolder...under the corresponding profile name. Otherwise you can rightclick in the scan-results window to get in the popupmenus...with the fixdat options.
So creating a fixdat isn't a problem.

You use them as you use any other dat. Add them to the profiler (e.g. by drag&drop), create a profile for it, load it and scan. In early days people used fixdats with the rebuilder only. Rebuilder destination points to a new folder, they use a fixdat sent by a friend...and drop their entire collection in the rebuilder....

So...fixdat usage doesn't differ from using a dat.....it simply only contains stuff which was missing in a previous scan. Although you will lose any parent/clone relationship!! So I assume you're looking for a diff-datfile instead of a fixdat. Use Logiqx' mamediff to create such files.
