Subjectclrmame 1st time scan new Reply to this message

I downloaded clrmamepro (3.85) for the first time and, after downloading the "titles" dat file from the clrmamepro web site and adding my rompath, I tried to scan the 150 or so ROMS that I have that are missing files or have some other problems (mostly missing files) and got the following error: "The following not empty rompaths don't contain any valid sets: [directory path to ROMS] Either you selected wrong paths or all sets have wrong names. Recheck your settings or enable at least 'set' + 'name' check."

I know the rompath is correct, I verfied that at least a few of the ROM names are in the "titles" dat file, and I have everything checked for the "check" and "fix" columns in the scan settings.

The ROMS in question are standard Winzip files that I haven't altered in any way. What am I doing wrong?

You probably haven't setup the rompaths correctly.
Keep in mind the two possible scanmodes:

rompath\setname.zip for zipped sets
rompath\setname\file 1... file n for unzipped sets.

The (one and only) setname in the titles datfile is "titles". So you have to setup a romfolder pointing to a folder containing titles.zip (and that zip contains the png files) or you point to a folder which got a subfolder called "titles" (the setname) and that subfolder got all png files unzipped.

Example: You store the tiles zipped in D:\mame\misc_art\titlepics\titles.zip then you have to setup a rompath D:\mame\misc_art\titlepics\

or you store them in C:\temp\test\flyers\005.png ...pacman.png etc... then your rompath is C:\temp\test, since flyers is the correct setname.

Thanks for the reply, however, I guess I'm not clear, at this point, on how the dat files relate to what I want to do.

I just want to recover or rebuild the binaries within the zip file for each game so that they run under MAME 1.05.

Since the PNG extension (within the titles.dat file) denotes a graphics file, am I even using the correct dat file in the first place?

Can clrmamepro even rebuild each games zip file with the correct (missing) bin files?

Now I am a bit clueless about what you want to do...
What does the titles dat have to do with binaries?
The "Titles" datfile is for the so-called title screenshot image collection which is shown in e.g. MAME32. It shows a picture of the game where the title is usually shown. It has nothing to do with game-titles, ie set binaries.

So..tell me again what you want to do.

Thanks for your patience, Roman.

I have around 150 zipped ROM files that MAME 1.05 won't run because there are missing binaries within the zip files.

I was hoping that clrmamepro (from what I'd read about it) would rebuild each of these "broken" ROMS so that all of the needed binaries would be in place. Maybe I'm asking too much!

I only chose the "titles" dat file since this seemed closest to what clrmamepro might need to replace the missing ROM binaries that MAME 1.05 is giving errors on.

Well....first of all:
Titles don't have anything to do with rom images. As mentioned, titles are screenshots of games showing the titlescreen. MAME32 shows this picture (besides flyers, cabinet pictures, marquees, etc...etc.) when you select a game in the gamelist.

clrmamepro can fix most set issues. Wrong names, wrong cases, wrong sizes, etc...etc...but it can't magically create missing files for you (there are some exceptions to this...but that doesn't need to be discussed here at the moment). The rebuilder is commonly used to build up correct sets for the currently used datfile from unsorted, messy files.

So if you miss files, you have to find them somewhere and use either Scanner's fixmissing or the rebuilder to add them to your collection.

Thanks for clearing this up for me, Roman.

My thoughts were maybe the non-working game binaries would be parsed and rebuilt to represent all the binaries that MAME 1.05 is looking for to run a given game. It seems, then, that the binaries are fixed and either they're there or they're not.
