cmpro is great! I'm finally skilled enough with it to
scan my roms and rebuild them. :-)

Now I'm venturing into the extra parts of MAME.. the dat files; artwork, cabinets, etc..

I can load the www proile for
www.clrmame.com/mamedats.zip then I'm not sure the next step.

I get a list in "not used/new DatFiles".
I select one and I get a choice...
update, default, default.cmp, cancel.

If I choose default... I then go to Settings...
what do I specify for "Flyers"? The pull down lists
"ROM-Paths", Sample Paths, etc... but no "Flyers-Path"
I can select "Global-Add-Path" and specify a the path to "Flyers".... is that correct?

Then when I try to scan... I still need to specify a
ROM Path ? I thought the DAT made it so a ROM Path is not needed?

This is where I'm confused in using DAT files.

Thanks,

well...it's always the same procedure:

- load a datfile (no matter if taken from your disk or the www profiler)
- if it's a new datfile, chose 'default'
- go to settings and setup a rompath
- go to the scanner and scan

So for artwork dats like flyers you do exactly this.
Now the general two scanning rules:
rompath\setname\file 1 ... file n for unzipped sets
rompath\setname.zip for zipped sets

That should help to setup rompaths correctly. An example is the flyers datfile. If we look at it (e.g. in a texteditor), we see that it only got one set named "flyers"

game (
name flyers
...
)

So if we keep the flyers zipped, we use something like rompath\flyers.zip, otherwise rompath\flyers\png 1 ... png n

And if you look closer at the datfile you see that the png files are listed as roms, so you scan them exactly as roms in your mame profile.

So the main thing you have to care about is to setup the rompath correctly.

Thanks. I got it to work.

I guess my problem was "symantics" -- that is calling PNG flyer image files "ROMS" and specify them with a "ROM-Path".

That didnt seem "correct".

Thanks again for your great program!
