SubjectWhy CHD checking takes so long now? new Reply to this message

I'm not sure when this started, perhaps in this 0.110 cycle, but my CHD checking takes hours now. It takes long minutes to add 1% to the progress bar and my system crawls. ROMs and samples are OK, only CHDs. Any clues?

Checking a chd takes approximately two seconds. You see the progress bar a little bit longer at chds as when working on roms. But it's definetly not anything like more than a second or two. The CHD routines have changed and were updated to MAME's latest version, which also includes support for split chds. Maybe you turned on scanner's advance option 'decompress chd and check sha1/md5' which does the same as chdman -verify. And that check takes some time...but still it's fast..nothing 'hour-like'.

If that deep-check option is turned off and it takes remarkable long on your system, something other may interfear (maybe a virusscanner trying to analyze a chd). Turn other applications off.

There is an option for "Additionaly test SHA/MD5 for matches" but nothing specific to CHD decompressing. I disabled it anyway, same deal. I have however marked the option "Allow DiskImages in ROMPath root".

Edit: I found the option you mentioned under Checksums... and it wasn't marked.

Turned off AVG 7.5 which never game me a problem before, didn't help either.

Well...I haven't found anyone yet who got the same problem. Here (3.2GHz Machine, rather fast HDs), it's just a little 1-second stop per chd. Hardly noticeable.
