SubjectDatFile Folder bug? new Reply to this message

In batch mode I've tried every combination for default naming regarding dat files (name tag, folder, file) along with every combination of default settings (internal, default.cmp) as well as with create rompath for new dat checked/unchecked. The result is that "DatFile Name Tag" and "DatFile File" function, but "DatFile Folder" has no function. From a previous post I saw on the forums ( http://www.clrmame.com/cgi-bin/wwwthreads/showpost.pl?Board=clrmame&Number=2957&Search=true&Forum=All_Forums&Words=TOSEC&Match=Entire%20Phrase&Searchpage=0&Limit=25&Old=1year ) this is the ideal option for TOSEC.

Is anyone else using this option in the newest clrmamepro? I first tried updating to the newest version and once that didn't work I uninstalled and then reinstalled the newest and still no luck. I'm not sure if this is a bug or if I'm overlooking something, so any help is greatly appreciated.

IIRC, to use this "Datfile Folder" feature, your new datfiles have to be in a folder structure already.
Example: You use a zipfile where dats are included and they are already structured in folders in the zipfile:

Zip:
minor_emus\shark\shark.dat
major_emus\raine\raine_0_5.dat

If you drag'n drop this zip into the rebuilder you'll be asked to which root profile folder these zips should be added. After importing them they keep the folder structure from the zip.

Well...have to recheck that later at home, but maybe your dats aren't imported with existing subfolders, so that 'datfile folder' can't be used at all....
anyway...will look if I can create an example later on today.

Ok...ran a little test.

assume you got a zipped up datfile containing: fruitmachine\layout\Fruit Machine Layouts - JPeMu (20041126).dat
with datfile header entry: name "bla\Fruit Machine Layouts - JPeMu"

Now the 3 different results for default naming (note: the default naming is used for e.g. rompath, fastscan, scan, etc and not for the ordering in the profiler). I took the fastscan behaviour.

By Datfile Name Tag:

\fastscans\fruitmachine\layout\bla-Fruit Machine Layouts - JPeMu.fsc

By Datfile Folder

\fastscans\fruitmachine\layout.fsc

By Datfile File Name

\fastscans\fruitmachine\layout\Fruit Machine Layouts - JPeMu (20041126).fsc

So...I guess firstly you need a zipfile containing all tosec datfiles stored in a suitable subfolder structure. I remember a user provided that last year somewhere. That structure is taken for the profiles. The default naming options more affect an automatic generation of rompaths and internal cmpro file usage (like fastscan files). So you can quickly generate a rompath structure which matches the one in the dats (where '/' and '\' in name tags are replaced with "-").

Ok I certainly misunderstood.. but I've tried this by placing my dat in the rom folder and the result is that still no directory is chosen by default.

Sorry for being a pain, but perhaps others have similar questions.

I think I'm going to make a small util that will rename the dats so that the name = directory. Example:

Acorn 8bit - Utilities (TOSEC-v2006-03-16_CM).dat
inside file: name "Acorn 8bit - Utilities"

The directory should be "Acorn/8bit/Utilities". So my program will just put a / where the first space is, and then change the " - " to a /, problem solved (I think).

If I get this working let you guys know.

No need of placing dats manually. Use drag'n drop in the profiler or the add-button to add files. Cmpro does the rest for you. And if you drop a zipfile containing dats in a subfolderstructure, this structure is used for your profiles, too.

I'll try that.. still sounds like a lot of work for a few hundred dats ;)

Btw the newest TOSEC release doesn't support TIM, so you'll probably get a lot more TOSEC interested people querying regarding this.

Well...as far as I remember the user who proposed all this naming stuff was able to create it very quickly and tosec was then a one-click-job.
