SubjectCHD files removed during scan new Reply to this message

(1) I admit I am an idiot.
(2) I ask for the gods of mercy to answer my questions nonetheless...

When I run the "scan" with the all the fix options selected in clrmamepro, I lose all the big files such as the chd files in mame or the mpg files in daphne...

Basically, why does this happen and how do i run a correct scan that simply fixes chd files instead of erasing them?

I will either kill one of your enemies or raise one of your bastard children as one of my own if you can provide a clean answer.

Most likely they aren't listed in the datfile you're using or doesn't match (sha1/md5 compare) the ones listed. And so they become unneeded and are moved to the backupfolder. Turn off the fix unneeded option and look what the scanner lists. I bet it's listed as unneeded. Remember: Anything not listed in the used datfile is handled as 'unneeded'.

Nothing is lost though, everything is kept in the backup folder.

In regards to "unneeded" files. I downloaded the dat files from Logiqx, which means I presume that they included the chd information as well - if I'm wrong, then I am blind.

If these chd files are marked unneeded, does that necessarily make these files unusable? I know unlike roms, there shouldnt be that many variations of chd files out there so I'm confused how the files are either misscanned or incorrect.

There was a time when his dats didn't include chds. I don't know if that changed. Besides, for MAME you should use the direct import from the binary and don't use datfiles.

Unneeded is anything which isn't listed in the datfile. That doesn't mean they are unusable. If they are listed with a different hashvalue, you simply have a wrong or outdated chd. And yes, even chds changed in the past.

Maybe you should post a screenshot from an expanded scanresults tree (with fix unneeded disabled) which lists the chd, so I can get an impression what cmpro moans about.

1. You are a god... mainly because I appreciate your help.

2. By binaries, do you mean that I should rip the "data" from the executables instead of downloading the data files?

3. Hmmm... I didn't think CHD files would change that much from past variations; consequently, thanks for the heads up.

4. I'll post the screenshot of the scan with the settings you mentioned in my next posting.

5. When you said "cmpro moans about", does that mean that clrmampro is sometimes not accurate or misleading in its readings?

For MAME and other emulators, you don't need datfiles. clrmamepro can directly extract the data from the emulator binaries. For example: Profiler->Create->Executable Type: MAME and let the filename point to your MAME exe file. Hit Create and you're done. When you update the exe, cmpro will automatically detect that and updates as well.

Good

No. clrmamepro is accurate. In fact it's stricter than most people expect and more accurate and more detailed than MAME's audit options. "Moan" because the scan results tree lists sets with issues.
