Subjectinvaders sample during scan new Reply to this message

I've got MAME 0.114u3/ClrMAME 3.100c set up to scan sets, roms and CHDs (not samples), and I click on Scan and get:

Fix Unneeded File/Folder & Wrong Placed Files In Set '<unknown>'?

Do you want to delete

'D:\MAME\samples\invaders.zip' ?

If 'backup' is enabled this file/folder will be stored in the backupfolder!
Wrong placed files will be automatically moved to the correct set.

Why is it trying to fix unneeded samples?

I realize MAME's handling of invaders is a bit messed up (clones calling out parent sample set, but parent doesn't use samples), but why is it checking samples when I don't have that option selected?

space invaders doesn't need any sample set anymore since 114u2. So it's unneeded and can be removed.
Although, Mamedevs forgot to remove relations from other sets which kept invaders as sample-parent. That's where lots of warnings come from when you get the data directly from mame. So...you have to copy the invaders sample set for each of its sample-clones.

And to answer your original question: It's sets+unneeded check which toggles this. I still don't know why people always think of 'set' as a set of roms....
A set can be a collection of roms and/or samples and/or chds....so each of them alone is possible.

Perhaps if the options were presented as you described, there'd be less confusion. If sets is checked, why give the user the option to unselect ROMs and/or samples and or/CHDs if it's going to check them all anyway? If the options are mutually exclusive, present them as such.

Thanks for your reply...

You still didn't get it 8)

Sets checks the sets themselves (unneeded, dupes, setname, exists or not etc...)while roms, chds, samples check files inside the sets.

Heh, yeah. After unchecking sets, and leaving only ROMs and CHDs, I noticed it still wasn't doing what I expected. Oh well, I think I'm starting to get it now.

Peace =)
