SubjectFiles with wrong names question new Reply to this message

This should be simple but I can't figure it out. How do I get CMPro to recognize files that are correct, but not named properly? It seems that CMPro only checks correctly named zipfiles in the add-path. It ignores unzipped files and files that don't belong in a particular zipfile ("set"), even if it is the correct file from another archive (I tried unzipping all the images and zipping them up in one large archive that had a correct name- it only found the image for that particular "set" that was correctly named). I am using a datfile for disk images, by the way, one per zip file. Specifically, I have TOSEC-named files, but I have a frontend that requires different names, and a dat that goes with that frontend that I am trying to use to rename the disk images. I know that the images are correct because if renamed by hand (which I painstakingly did for about a dozen files), CMPro will recognize them. Again, I feel the answer should be obvious, but instead it is elusive. Thanks.

I was able to force CMPro to use these incorrectly-named archives by dragging them to the scan results window. CMPro took it from there and rebuilt the missing zips.

you mix up several things here:

- wrongly named set and romnames in rompaths can be easily fixed/detected by using the options sets + roms + name (+ fix name)

- the addpath is only used for fix-missing. If a set or rom is not found, it looks in the addpaths (additionally rompaths and backup folder). In case of the addpath, it looks for the setname, the setname of a possible parent and setnames of possible clones. In case the sets in the addpath are completely named differently, they won't be picked up then. Scanner Advanced options 'fix missing scans all files' will check all sets in the addpath without caring about the name. This option will slow down the progress immensly. It's not recommended.

- the rebuilder is the commonly used method to add sets/roms to your collection. It doesn't care at all about the name of the source file. Either use the rebuilder itself or -as you already found out- use drag'n drop in the scan results window.

Duh! (Slaps head) Of course. I knew I about the wrong names in the rompath- I should have put the files there instead of the addpath. I knew it was something simple. As for the rebuilder, in all the years I have used MAME, I actually have never used it- only the scanner. Huh. I'll have to give it a try.

Incidentally I did look at the advanced options a couple of times and must have glossed over that solution somehow, though as you say it is not recommended anyway.

Thanks for the help.
