SubjectMame sample and misfit sample new Reply to this message

Hi Roman
There is problem with samples :
I report what i've seen on romshare message board :
What's wrong, what's right ?
What to do ?

Mame samples :

StSkorpion :
I don't know about bowl3d, but the 005 samples are a dummy set.

robbbert :
I have a very nice sample set for 005. But bowl3d is not available.

StSkorpion :
Using the samples dat from Roman Scherzer the following sets are flagged as nodump:
005
barrier
bowl3d
boxingb
clowns
crash
gmissile
gunfight
m4
phantom2
ripcord
robotbwl
speedfrk
starhawk
wotw
This likely means that the samples aren't official.

robbbert :
I don't quite understand that because some of the sets have been around for ages.
invaders will do the job for gmissile, m4 and phantom2.
boothill == gunfight
clowns == clowns1
As far as I know, the 005 sounds are real.
I have a set for "crash" but the note says its from sprint2.
wotw - well i made an unofficial set that sounds cool, and applied it to wotwc as well.
wotwc is missing from your list. The other sets in your list are correct - there are no sounds for them.

Misfit samples :
galagost is colne of Galaga but they don't use the same sample.
When cleaning with a datfile created with clrmamepro, clrmamepro delete galagost samplea and keep only galaga.
Read :

f00l :
galagost seems taged sampleof galaga, so you well readded it.
Robert knew this issue, twsity said him about one month ago.

robbbert :
The problem with Galaga and Galagost is not a Misfit one, it is yet another one of ClrMamePro's idiosyncrasies. The source clearly chooses which sample should be used via the appropraite MACHINE_INIT. ClrMamePro has problems because Galagost is a clone of Galaga, so it thinks they should use the same samples.
ClrMamePro also gets upset if the sample file happens to not be the name of an existing game, when of course MAME lets you choose anything you like as a sample zipfile name.
So, please, just be thankful that it works, and don't use ClrMamePro to audit your samples. It has too many self-imposed restrictions to be of use.

f00l :
Ok !
Good news for galagost sample.
it works. fine.
So it's a clrmamepro merging problem.
I going to ask this issues to Roman. Sure he can fix this.
Clrmamepro is the best and secure tool to audit roms... or files.
If nobody talk him about this problem, he will never fix it.

A little long but, what you think ?

There is nothing wrong with the samples.
The provided samples datfile which I provide is for MAME .117 (not u1 or u2). There are a couple of nodump sets (e.g. 005) which are known and marked as nodumps. Easy as that. The samples are taken from the official MAME sample page. There are some corrections related to sample parent/clone relationsships done (e.g. MAME devs kept invaders as a sample parent for various sets while sample support for that parent was completely removed. Consequence is, the clones are corrected to use their own set.

The official MAME + official MAME samples are supported. Period ;)

After reading this more carefully I have to say: Full nonsense of Robbbert. Looks like he doesn't understand what cmpro does, which information is used from the -listxml export and which bugs are active in MAME. Besides cmpro asks YOU how to handle invalid statements in -listxml.

I don't know how this all work so I can't talk...
But...

> Besides cmpro asks YOU how to handle invalid statements in -listxml.

Thank for tips. I didn't thought to look at it :-(

Hmm, if I knew ppl were talking about me I might have joined in sooner, rather than finding this thread in a Google search!

I'll admit I don't know much about cmp, i only use it to prepare romsets for torrenting, never for samples or anything else.

But, as you said elsewhere, cmp is only meant for official mame, therefore my advice stands - do the samples manually for misfitmame.

Perhaps there's options in cmp that allow it to work the way I would have liked, but I admit to being too lazy to find out. :D
