Subjectclrmame loading dat and rebuilds extremely slow!!! new Reply to this message

hello, i have a vista problem loading dat files and running rebuilds. it was working fine on version 3109 and all the sudden it slowed to a crawl. i have moved to another drive and checked permissions, loaded 3109c and still the same problem. if i actually wait it crashes during rebuild but take and hour to get there. i have 4.1 dual core processors and 4gb ram so shouldn't be slow because of that. any suggestions? thank you.

No slowdowns here, c2d 6600, vista 64, a full mame scan takes 7 seconds.
Must be your system somehow. Turn off your virusscaner and scan again (or scan for malware before that). Check the taskmanager to see which tasks take all of your cpu power....or maybe a different task (background defragging) accesses your hd.

when it crashes it is on unrar.dll. i just loaded 7-zip recently and wondering if maybe that is the problem.

Well, there is a known bug in the unrar.dll. It was fixed in the meantime and an updated dll will be included in the next update. In the meantime, you can get a new version from rarsoft if you like.

i deleted unrar.dll from the clrmamepro folder and there rebuild crashes stopped but it is still painfully slow to load the dats and rebuild. it is loaded outside of program files and with and without admin rights it happens. it used to be quite fast. i am not having issue with anyother programs except maybe outlook 2003 could load faster too. nowhere near the delays with clrmame tho.

Do you use a lot profiles (e.g. > 100)?
Did you use any of floating around settings/profile creators for clrmamepro? If so, tough luck, they create profiles in a wrong way so they get loaded slowly.
If not, well, then I still suspect something's interfearing heavily. Usually virusscanners do that, maybe you should exclude cmpro's settings/datfile folder from any virusscanner background task settings...

Maybe the profiler popupmenu option "garbage-collection" helps you to clean up some stuff.

yes i probably did have more than 100 dats loaded. i don't now though. if i make the priority HIGH, it won't stay there between a dat load and rebuild, i have to elevate it twice each time then it works ok but nothing appears to be running to slow it down. i upgraded my pc-cillin' av to the latest version last night and it cleaned a few minor adwares. nothing more. grumble vista grumble

Using Windows Vista here myself (and also 7zip). No issues. The priority options are only used for some internal threads which are not used at all or very limited when the profiler reads in the profiles....
Well...>100 profiles need some time to read in, but this usually takes maybe 8 seconds for 1000 or something. As mentioned, if your *.cmp files were created with an external tool, it might be slow. If you like you can rar/7z/zip up your complete clrmame folder and send it to me for testing somehow.
