I have noticed a steady increase in error/warning/whatever notices while importing the data from mame. Does mame need to have some modifications/clean-up to its output or is it some change in "protocol" that needs adapting/adopting?

I know you can turn off the reporting of all import errors, but I leave them on just "in case" some important life-altering error is given. (grin)

well...MAME devs don't care about some things which interfear with auditing sets. I can fully understand their points since they care about emulating the sets and naming the files accurately.
So for example you can't fully merge some sets (without using subfolders in zips) due to the fact that equally named roms have different hashcodes. For MAME it doesn't play a role since MAME loads by checksum compare.

There are other 'issues'...if a really important one is there, I usually contact Aaron or other devs about it...the common ones are..well...common ;)

Interesting thanks for clearing that up Roman.

Is there any way you could comment on which action is the 'recommended' one each time a dialog pops up?

ie which button should be pressed in order to ensure you don't delete desirable roms, or otherwise adversely affect how MAME deals with a set?

Even just pointing out which options only affect merged sets might help to clear it up?

Thanks again.

Thank you for the answer and the recommendation!!! I used to read each message and then press yes... but there are so many new ones from the latest mame versions that I just click on "yes to all"

there are so many new? Nah...there might be some new sets affected but the problem is usually the same.
Yes To All ...and done ;)
