SubjectWay to ignore name mismatch? new Reply to this message

I have a set of roms backed up on 20 DVDs. I'm scanning this set one disc at a time using the latest DAT to determine which roms I have and which ones I'm missing. For this purpose I don't care about whether the name is incorrect. If I uncheck Check Name, the roms with incorrect names are marked as unneeded. This is not what I was expecting to happen. I need these roms to be marked as available and removed from the missing list. Otherwise, when I move to the next disc, clrmame looks for these roms again and proceeds to mark them as missing because they do not exist on the second disc even though it found them on the first one. I need to find a way to scan through all of these discs and end up with an accurate list of what I'm actually missing. I'm guessing what clrmame needs is an advanced option to ignore name and case mismatches but continue to check for them.

Well...if the name is not correct and you don't check for names, the file *is* actually unneeded since it's not an official part of the set then.
Turn off check unneeded ;)
I currently don't see a plan to include some in-between state like 'ignore name in case of name is not correct and name check isn't enabled'.
Or you keep unneeded check enabled and after the scan you toggle it so the result tree will be updated.

However I will think about a check for
"if a detected wrong name was not renamed (due to e.g. being on DVD or not using the fix option), don't list it as unneeded)....in fact cmpro should already do this...as I said..I will check this. So this solution would mean you would keep the name check enabled.

So if you only care about the tree you can always toggle the check options after a scan. The tree will be updated directly to hide/show the belonging items.

I just need it to remember that the rom was found between DVD swaps instead of later marking it unneeded because it is still looking for it on the next DVD.

Sorry, meant to say missing instead of unneeded.

Let me restate the functionality I need since I seem to have gotten myself confused as well!

When I scan the first DVD, several roms are found, but marked as being incorrect because the name has changed. When I switch to the next DVD and rescan, these roms change from being found but incorrect to being missing because clrmame cannot find them on the second DVD. I would like it at the very least to be able to retain their status from the first scan and continue to list them as found but incorrect name. Then at the very end of all 20 DVDs, I can uncheck the name checkbox after the scan and see an accurate listing of what I am really missing.

Of course you're already doing a "scan" and not a "new scan" after a dvd switch, aren't you?

Of course

Another thing I tried that did not work is the following. I set up clrmame to try to repair files with the wrong name. Since these files are on DVD, the repair failed so the entries were now marked as [Not Fixed]. I then right clicked and tried to Move All Listed [Not Fixed] Sets to a folder on my hard drive that is also in my scan path. That way these would be picked up and renamed on the next pass. This did not work either because you cannot move files off of a DVD. An option to Copy files from the right click menu would fix this problem.

This would probably be easier to implement than my other request since it appears you only store on/off states for the roms in the fast scan files.
