Yes, I'd gathered that but what I meant is that I do the following with my collection:

ROMs (dir)
   area51.zip
CHDs (dir)
    area51 (dir)
        area51.chd

I agree, MAME is the most reliable emulator for good dats and listinfo is very rarely incorrect. I only really release the data file to go with the change and supplement dats that I also release. Seeing as I create it for the RomCenter conversion and reference for supplement data files, I release it for consistency mainly.
