SubjectClrMAME in Linux? new Reply to this message

In a desperate attempt to find a rom manager, any rom manager (mamory looked promising but tends to segfault; I need to tour its source), I googled for 'clrmame linux' to hope to find a replacement, or maybe a way to run it in wine.

I found a link to this very site, an old news page:

01/07/2001: Windows..yes...Linux...yes...and now: ClrMamePro goes OS/2

And,

07/31/2000: ClrMamePro with Linux ? Impossible ???? No way ! Thanks to derek_m for this screenshot. ClrMamePro running on a Linux Platform.

Sadly, the picture that links to is gone, and you give no info as to how he did it. Sure, that's 3 and a half years old, but maybe that info could still be useful. Right now, rom utilities are the only reason I need to boot into windows...

Any suggestions? Thanks :)

ClrMamePro should run fine with VMWare or WINE. A real port isnt't planned currently.

I've tried under wine (being a Linux novice, I didn't know what, if any, special options to use) and it works fine (if ugly, lacking nice fonts) until it tries to make changes (I tested just by renaming one romset), then it seems to freeze. Any suggestions?

A ClrMAME Pro port to Linux would be lovely and I'd give you my firstborn, but in lieu of that I'll take what I can in WINE. :)

Most likely you don't have write rights for the files.
