I have found that I almost always get a few incorrect crc32's when I use dat files to scan my romsets.

This is strange, because no matter how many times I replace the problematic roms, the crc32 check always states they're wrong.

For example; If I scan the Jag roms (using the 2.01 dat from this site) the following goes wrong with two roms:

Brutal Sports Football (1994) (Telegames) [folder: Brutal Sports Football (1994) (Telegames)]
wrong crc32: Brutal Sports Football (1994) (Telegames).jag [wrong: 0fdceb66] [right: bcb1a4bf]

Music Demo (2002) (ScatoLOGIC) [folder: Music Demo (2002) (ScatoLOGIC)]
wrong crc32: Music Demo (2002) (ScatoLOGIC).jag [wrong: 33d8c132] [right: 2ef95c65]

No matter how many times I replace these roms, the issues remain. But I know the sources I use for roms are good. Also- the zip is not corrupt and rezipping these roms makes no difference.

Is there something wrong with Cowering's original GoodTools (are cowering's tools more trustworthy/ dependable?), or maybe in the conversion to dat files?

I guess my question is essentially this: Are those two roms likely to be damaged in some way, or have I configured the scanner wrongly?

Infinite thanks to all for any help!!

The ROMs have to be headerless to match the checksum. Goodtools skip possible headerinformation, cmpro doesn't.
Both files are rather easy to fix. Get a hexeditor and remove some bytes at the beginning...don't remember the exact number...but the files are this size afterwards:

1.161.344 music demo (2002) (scatologic).jag
2.097.152 brutal sports football (1994) (telegames).jag

I see... sounds a bit more complicated, but thanks for the response!

would you consider doing something similar to Cowering- putting an option in cmp to ignore headers? that might be cool...

otherwise, is there a hexeditor you would recommend for this task? Or- better yet- is there a specialised header remover for good roms?

Thanks again boss!

No. Since headers are usually not needed, people should care to remove them ;)

I use HexWorkshop 4.23

Nope. Different console dumps, different headers. Even for one system there can be a lot of different headers with different sizes, etc.

ucon64 can do almost everything you want to do with roms, strip header, strip at the end, pad the rom, convert to diffrent formats, interleave/ deinterleave, ....
