Well, off a standing start like a quarter, the Supra can hold its engine at a speed that allows the turbo to work well and ride the wheelspin to hookup. In real racing, though, the turbo lag is going to be much more noticable. There are ways around it, but it usually involves really big brass balls and reflexes to match when the turbo kicks in a tenth earlier than you expected.

Actually, it's closer to a five-speed with an extra really really really really tall overdrive. Sixth is useless except for freeway cruising. Also, the proper verb tense is "had" (R.I.P. F-body).
