It's already way fucked up. Might as well flip a coin to determine the election results, it'll be just as accurate.

With memories of 2000 and the state's bitter fight over ballots still fresh, Floridians began casting votes on Monday and within an hour problems cropped up.

Florida machines crash during testing

The voting machines that replaced butterfly ballots and hanging chads are checked by an "Enron-style of auditing" and don't provide voters any assurance that their votes are being cast, an expert testified Tuesday.

According to election industry officials, electronic voting systems are absolutely secure, because they are protected by passwords and tamperproof audit logs. But the passwords can easily be bypassed, and in fact the audit logs can be altered. Worse, the votes can be changed without anyone knowing, even the County Election Supervisor who runs the election system.

As millions of voters prepare to use electronic voting machines for the first time we take a look at the companies selling these machines and their ties to the Bush administration.

Billboards are popping up all around the city attacking the electronic machines used to vote. They're being placed by a group of citizens concerned that the eSlate machines used in Travis County are not safe enough for use.
