That you can't get to www.georgewbush.com from within Europe.

The interesting part is - The DC++ website would create a message about it, implying some conspiracy. How does that make any sense?

...it is after all open source. the reasons are probably going to turn out to be 'to keep DDoS attacks at a minimum' once they address the issue... thereg has an article about it. i think it's silly that he put the message in the binaries but it is his right as the chap who maintains the app. if it was a neo-nazi message i'd have the same response to it.

I don't have an issue with the window, I could care less. My question was - why expose it via his app? The only reason I could think of is that since the dev is somehow slighted by limited access he would concoct some sort of conspiracy theory and enact revenge.

Which even then doesn't make any sense. There's clearly ways around it, and it's been there the entire time. So why would it matter now? Because the election is so close? Come to think of it, that's probably the reasoning of someone who would do it in the first place. As if the website being hacked would somehow influence or embarrass anyone. Probably be funny, though.

And you mean restrict access to the website to discourage attacks? That doesn't make any sense either, as even that article blatantly points out. Restricting access would only draw attention to it.

Yet another reason how this government's small mistakes are immediately recognized and blown out of proportion. Watch, it'll be an accident in the first place. That'd be funny.

Liberal propaganda to attack Bush, basically. He did the exact same thing when the war began, except instead of a stupid message like now, he spammed users with a comic strip portraying Bush in a bad light each time they started up DC++. It's sad that liberals have to go so far as to harrass people just to discredit someone and get the wrong guy in office, but it's his program, and unfortunately, he's going to do what he likes.

As for the "conspiracy" he seems to make it out as, personally, if I were the Bush administration, I'd be doing the same thing. All the voters are in the United States, there's absolutely no reason to have the server's bandwidth wasted allowing people who can't vote to access the site. If Kerry's not smart enough to consider this and do the same thing, it's his problem if suddenly voters can't access the site.
