It automatically finds it, it uses the same dir (~/.mozilla/firefox or Documents And Settings\Username\Application Settings\mozilla\firefox I think)
When it starts up the first time, it informs you if any themes/extensions are not supported by the newer version, it prompts you to check for updated versions, and downloads them. If it cannot find a newer version, it disables that until you can download an update. (Preferences > Advanced > Software Update > Check Now)
Works very well. But I did read that 1.0RC1 is considered to be more "unstable final bug zapping release" than 1.0PR, but still, you'd figure since it was closer to 1.0 it would actually be less buggy? Anyway the more people testing it the better, I figure.
