SubjectThink I'm fucking tired of Metroid Prime. new Reply to this message

I got to a certain point in Metroid Prime, I'd say I'm probably over 70% through the game and I've stopped playing it. I'm at a boss that I think is in the Phazon Mines and I've just had it with the controls. I can't fucking maneuver appropriately with a god damned gamepad. Fucking cock sucking shit assed whore.

I thought this was one game that I couldn't play with anything else. I tried with a PS2 controller and it didn't feel as natural, I don't really think a mouse/keyboard would help especially with all the morph ball maneuvering you have to do. I thought it was pretty well geared to the controller, maybe one of the things people don't automatically catch onto though is that you can get free look by holding down the R button halfway, and you can toggle between that and strafe to do complex maneuvers and get more accurate shots.

I know the boss you're talking about though and it's a little annoying. You have to shoot off all his shields with super rockets, you have to do a lot of running away in ball form, and when you've got that down you have to charge the plasma beam and use x-ray vision to locate the boss and blast him, then do it all over again. It's a shitty boss, but imho it's the only poorly executed boss in the game. The other ones are so cool, and you're going to miss seeing Ridley... That's too bad.

I played the game through 6 times already, once on normal, then again to get 100%, then on hard, then 3 other times on normal just for the hell of it. I dunno if the sequel will be as good though, supposedly it has nothing to do with metroids at all. Multiplayer sounds worthless as well.

At least it's nowhere near as frustrating as F-Zero GX..

When you're forced to play a very small subset of games since you can't necessarily afford to go drop $500 to get a wad of games it actually makes them a little more special. Don't get me wrong, I'm not capping on you for playing 98% of your games pirated but that's just what I noticed personally. People rave about the DC for being such a fun little system but I never really got into the games. I got them all for free and the most fun I had was collecting them. Do you find yourself getting them, playing them for about 15 minutes then looking for something new? Just curious.

Metroid Prime was a great game. I bought a GC just to play that (and actually sold it afterwards when I found out that there's no games for the GC). I can't fault you for not enjoying it but maybe some of what I said is true.

I've been spoiled by PC game controls not pirated software.

I can say that about some emulated systems, but not pc games.
I don't get that many games, but the ones i do, i usually play through at least 1 time before i put them aside.

I could notice that with gba games. When they were easily avaible, i'd get a bunch just from looking at a couple of screenshots and never actually played them, now that they're a slightly bigger chore to get i only get the ones i'm actually interested in ( last one i got was MMZ 3 ).

But i have a different relationship with piracy than you might, so i probably feel quite different about getting a game or movie for free than you seem to.

Gives us a kiss precious.

I don't have any issues with piracy. I just think it kills the fun when you can have everything. And it seems you have a similar idea since you only gather a small section of games. I guess I kinda went off on a tangent since I know satsuisuatiot downloads like 48950943 games a day and his biggest complaint about an otherwise excellent game is not being able to brave the controls after he's almost finished the it.

Dude I so agree with you. To me until they make proper controls Metroid is DEAD to me on consoles. They make a fucking FPS (despite them calling it an adventure) then have the balls to put in enemies that move like PC shooter bots and give you inadequate controls to deal with the problem.

RomGirl said:

She's right, but to get the lock...you can lose like 20-100 of your fucking energy as it bounces up and down shooting at you like some quake reject until you get the lock to level the playing field. Not fun, not fair, and just fucking stupid. I got a friend who was the coder on MPrime2, said it's just the same on there too...so I ain't buying it either. This is HIGHLY unacceptable when every other FPS like(or is one) game can get pinpoint aim using either of the sticks with the other to move/strafe.

They could have easily mapped the visors in the pause screen allowing the c-stick (as it does in the MOH games, and other fps's) to do up/down and strafe while the left stick is for aim. That game would have been PERFECT then. Shame...shitty fucking shame. I will try out the Metroid freebie with my DS in a month though, see if any of the control ops are doable, if so I'll bag it...if not, f'em again.

I download a lotta games but I still enjoy them somewhat. Now days I'm more concerned about school and I don't really like spending more than 3 hours a day playing a game because I wanna do other stuff. I wanna play the games but I don't really want to make a committment to them so it takes me months to complete them.

Damn games now days are too long anyways. I liked when you could complete an 8 or 16 bit game in a few hours and then go outside and do something else.

But you can buy them, and if you can have whatever you want, then maybe life isn't fun anymore because you'll get bored fast. You won't be able to break down what you desire into what you really desire, because you'll be able to get whatever you want right away, so you won't really be satisfied by the things you want superficially and you'll never find out what you really want. If you were rich you'd probably be initially happy, but then the same thing would probably happen as when you can download whatever you want.

Thanks to snaking (thanks Eon!), I managed to beat all Story Mode Chapters on Normal, Hard and Very Hard, in addition to beating every cup on every difficulty, and even getting within 10 seconds of the staff ghosts on every stage, meaning I unlocked (and bought) every single staff ghost for every single level. I've never felt so done with a game in my life.

Subjectsnaking... new Reply to this message

Snaking is a method used to increase your speed to level greater than what can be achieved using multiple boosts. Some consider it cheating, but it's awfully difficult to implement it in a useful situation, say, grand prix, or story mode.

Various machines are capable of snaking - Black Bull is a perfect example, although you can snake with other crafts.

Selecting a course with a wide straightaway is normally the best bet to learn snaking. Good examples are Casino Palace: Split Oval, Port Town: Aero Dive, and Casino Palace: Double Branches.

Select a Machine, and set your acceleration to Maximum. While driving on a straightaway, alternate between pressing [L and Left on the control stick] and [R and Right on the control stick] while holding A. Simply sway the vehicle back and forth, and you'll accelerate to speeds MUCH higher than can be accomplished with a few simple boosts. It's hard to keep it up for long (your fingers get awfully sore), but it's great for quick boosts in speed when you can control it.

Snaking is apparently an intended inclusion in the game, and not just a trick exploiting the control system.
