SubjectShit, my comp is crashing when i watch videos now... new Reply to this message

Every so long, the fucking thing gives me a BSD and crashes. For fucks sake, it's not like i'm running some higly CPU/GPU intensive app here, it's a damn video file for shit's sake.

Anyone know what could be causing this? The last hardware intensive thing i ran was Dawn of War, and even with that, the game would crash quite often, but not to the extent of giving me a BSD ( on XP mind you ).

I've already tore this bitch appart, cleaned all the conectors and what not and this shit still happens. What other viruscan would you reccomend that might pick up something Norton let slide?

I can't even enjoy a fucking movie anymore... piece of shit hardware. It's not like i'm abusing it, i'm just asking for the least it should do: WORK!

My guess is it doesn't have anything to do with a virus.

If you already took everything apart and cleaned, that's half the battle. I'd do a complete reformat. If the problem still persists, you've obviously got some hardware issues. Anonymous bluescreens tend to lean towards processor or heat. I'd check that out first if you still get it after reformat. Generally, hw problems are pretty obvious, and you can pick the component out right away. If not, then it's usually processor.

Video playback takes less than 40% of CPU resources, it's insane.
I'll take a closer look at the GPU, it could be the video out.

Maybe it's not proc, but it still could be gpu, mobo, or hd. My guess is hd or software. If the cpu isn't that hot, then the gpu probably isn't, either. You could check and make sure the fan is on on the gpu, or run some utility. Tough to diagnose mobo problems other than replacing it. Hard drives can also cause blue screens in extreme situations, though you'd probably see other signs first. Again, tough to diagnose until it dies unless you replace.

Your first and best solution is to reformat and go from there.

It's not the video card overheating? Mobo chipset? Maybe you should increase the RAM latency in the BIOS. Some spyware causes BSOD. Dunno...

If you have a Linux live CD boot into that and see if you can run the GL screensavers and shit, or some of the 3D games.
