Stick with SP1 and a good firewall. There are several good
free (for personal use) firewalls on the net, among them:

AVG Antivirus is a good free antivirus program you can use.

1 - i hate firewalls since most of them disables file transfers from msn/icq and such. (canīt send files, or canīt receive files, or both.) Does the imbued SP2 firewall works every time with that?

2 - Is there anything ELSE that SP2 has that makes it a worthy update? Security issues.. the pop-up blocker, etc?

A lot of security flaws were fixed. I say absolutely. I personally don't use the Windows Firewall since I have McAfee installed.

I personally don't have any issue with it.

You can turn off the firewall if you don't like it, and you still get the rest of the security updates. If you're willing to spend time configuring third-party applications, you might as well spend some time configuring your own OS...

Foreword: I haven't installed SP2 yet. I just don't have time :P

Firewalls block whatever you tell them to block. Now, if you took some time to see how works and how you can configure it, you could happily have a firewall AND transfer gay porn on IM or P2P networks.

Told to be better than pre-SP2 firewall, but I'd stick with a third-party app.

Sure, there are a lot of security fixes. About the popup blocker: use a better browser. Not just Firefox, but *ANY* non-IE browser will do. No, really.

OKKAY!

Learn to live with it. Who knows how long MS plans on patching problems that SP2 prevents/works around. Personally I'd apply it, and on top of that get a hardware firewall just in case. Plus a good antivirus and spyware blocker.

unless you have an Athlon64 Based cpu make sure this is typed in your boot.ini:

"Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=AlwaysOff" minus the quotes. it turns off DEP and I got alot more performance than when I had it on on my Athlon XP-M 2.6GHZ.
