SubjectHalf Life 2 unlocks at midnight PST new Reply to this message

Fuck buying it in the store. The collector's edition contains a shirt that doesn't fit, some posters I can't afford to get framed, and a dvd in a cheesy as shit case. no manual. The normal edition comes on like 6 fucking cds. Fuck that.

Steam all the way.
(I bought the Silver package)

The silver package is the best way to IMO. The Gold is too hardcore for me. I was going to buy the retail version, but when i saw what was included, i couldn't pass it up. Plus, preordering let me play CS: source for the past month, too.

It unlocks at 3AM for me (east coast). Looks like i'll be trying it out in the morning.

You can burn your cache files to a cd or dvd (Half Life 1 + all of the mods except Condition Zero will fit onto one cd), or you can use a built in backup utility to burn a backup DVD of everything (or any combination of Valve products).

Half Life 2 requires an internet connection for Steam to unlock the game anyway (so people that picked it up at Best Buy last week haven't been able to play yet because the game isn't unlocked yet).

If you buy it in a store, you still have to pay taxes. On Steam, it's $5 cheaper and no tax.

When you buy on Steam, all of the money goes right to Valve. When you buy in a store, VU gets a huge cut of the change. In light of events in the last few years/months, my opinion of VU is just slightly higher than my opinion of EA right now, so any chance to screw VU out of money while still supporting the developer is a GOOD THING for me.

This game is awesome, but it makes me wish I could afford to upgrade to some newer hardware. Right now I'm playing through it in 640x480 and it's still a bit choppy (dropping below 20fps at times)

I haven't had this much fun playing through a game that totally raped my system since Mafia

If you're getting that shitty a performance on your setup, i have no hopes of being able to play it.
Is it more demanding than Doom 3?
