OH NO an 'illegal' MAME build. Pfft... I don't see how any build could really be classified as being any more illegal than the so-called legit copies. They perform the same thing, allowing you to play shit for free. Sounds more like an egostroking ban on that guy and should be removed.

it's modified gpl, the source can be distributed for such builds, but not the binaries, iirc. no court cases have established this as 'word of law' but in the open-source community such things seem to be taken as such, because they want to respect the authors' wishes. i think it's better those builds are not distributed in binary form, to keep The Man from putting their collective nose where it isn't welcome, but i can't say i personally haven't benefitted from 'illegal' builds that i didn't compile myself. i don't really respect the programmers of the games themselves because they get paid decently for what they do. i respect the mame team because they do what they do for free [aside from the benefits of the boards and stuff they get], and they don't charge for it either.

rambling early-morning post..

don't think it was right to ban lux though.

Well as you said, there's no law against is so people can bitch all they like. Idea was banning over that was bullshit and cowardly, at least it's removed.
