I don't think anyone I know could name what Alone in the Dark is, much less someone I know who has played one of the games. I don't think it's a big name, even for videogamers.

What they need is material. A videogame movie is tangible, something that is already a product and only needs to be adapted. Instead of designing a new car, they're copying the design of a successful carmaker.
