Thanks to everyone that tried to help with my hard drive problems.

The actual problem was "none of the above" of all our solutions.

What was the problem?

The way Windows XP handles errors with drives.

Go to this site and see what the problem and
solution are. In fact, you might want to bookmark the site
for your own use, since this 'feature' might happen to anyone
here using WinXP.

I never heard of that although I've experienced a few DMA problems in Windows... (mostly related to VIA/SBLive! drivers, although even on other boards some drives, CD-RW and DVD-ROM, fucked up if DMA was turned on even though they supported it)

Currently takes absolutely ages to copy files from it, and following through that article, I checked it out and it's set to PIO instead of DMA.
