I don't understand why there is such unexplainable behavior in a computer program.

Did you try clearing the registry values of all of the programs you had installed before?

Perhaps it is certain DLL versions the programs came with that made it work that way, which were overwritten when you tried installing other programs?

Can you try the Windows Rollback or whatever?
