What a downer that the project got crushed. The sample music (scroll down) that they did is good too.

Of course they were going to get crushed. If they had an iota of common sense they would have realized that the whole project was a waste of time and that they needed to make their own generic anime characters unless they wanted the royal assraping from Squaresoft.

Their whole idea that they'd come up with this project and then hope to get hired to make the full game was just a little kid's fantasy and I'm honestly surprised that they were allowed to continue on as long as they were, being as open as they were about the project.

Not like it much matters anyway, it wasn't even a full game that they were working on, just a tech demo of a few scenerios from the original game in 3d.

maybe having their precious baby stomped on by the big man knocked some fucking sense into them and maybe they're knee deep in a new and original project. Probably not, though... watch them reveal their 3d Dragonball Z RPG next.

But it's not like Squaresoft is updating Chrono Trigger so why not let them have at it?

Yeah, but it'd be nicer to have a remake of a classic. It sounds like these people weren't really equipped to write an original project. Like some people that train their musical skills by remixing music, programmers train themselves by emulating other programs before they try and create something original. Besides, a lot of people would have rather had 3D Chrono Trigger than Chrono Cross, maybe this is a way of realizing that.

I guess they can try that now though!

Was that it?

I guess if anything they should have kept it a secret until they had something to release.

Oh, I would have actually liked to see a remake of that game in 3D. I'd also like to see those remakes of the Final Fantasy games Square had been talking about forever.

As long as it's an RPG, the PC is lacking many good ones. A homebrew 3D RPG engine would be cool, too.

If they let them do it then they open the floodgates for anyone to take a crack at it. They were just protecting their property.

Probably because Chrono Cross sucked
I don't doubt that a remake would be nice, I just think that they never should have wasted their time on this project, and I agree that they should have kept it secret until their tech demo was done

Yep, that was the driving force behind the project

They'd never come out in america, so it doesn't matter. I'd like to see the remakes of Dragon Quest IV and V come out in the US at some point, but that's about as likely as these guys getting permission from SquareEnix to continue their work ~a year after they originally killed it

You're smoking crack. The PC is flooded with quality RPGs, just not console RPGs (which work better on a console anyways). The Baldur's Gate games would never be successful on the console if they didn't retool them to be souped up versions of Gauntlet. Same for Fallout. Not saying console RPGs are worse, just that they come across as more advanced adventure games than they do as role playing games.

It still pains me that Anachronox was released on PC where no one would pay any attention to it, similar to how Wizardy : Tale of the Forsaken land was released on PS2 where no one (in america) could be arsed with it. A first person dungeon crawler? Fuck that.

You may be interested in the new Freedom Force vs The Third Reich game, though.

1 - you spent 99.9% of the game playtime on dialogues, listening NPC´s telling their childhood stories.

2 - you must take a 3 hour game course just to learn the game BASICS.

I prefer diablo 2 style, more direct gameplay. Or something like old school lucasarts adventures.

True RPG´s nowadays are very boring.
OR you must have a 10 hour per day free time to actually enjoy them, which people like me doesn´t.

sigh.. back to work. cya later.

I realize the principal of the thing, it just sucks that this is the way it has to be.

Translation patches would be so easy, we already have translated dialogue...

And the chance of a handheld translation is becoming slimmer and slimmer...

> You're smoking crack. The PC is flooded with quality RPGs, just not console RPGs

That's what I meant, it's lacking in that genre, and this game could have provided a good homebrew engine for making such games. Anachronox is good, someone stole my copy so I never got to play much of it. I'd play more if there were more like it. Too bad they fucked up the ports of FF7 and FF8 but I guess cracking the PC gaming market doesn't provide enough money to be an incentive to do well. Plus exclusive deals with console makers don't usually leave much room for these.

> A first person dungeon crawler? Fuck that.

Yeah a lot of people realized with Shining Force and Phantasy Star just how boring that could get. You're talking to someone who completed both... But wouldn't exactly want to do it again.
