Subjectattn all: suggest a pc game to joffe new Reply to this message

i need something new to play. i don't really follow what's going on in videogames for consoles, except those that i actually care about [ie gba games like harvest moon or pokemon that are emulated immediately, because i don't have a current console]. as for pc games which i actually play, i tend to hear about a game via word of mouth on a forum or something and check it out.

i dig racing/vehicular games that have good, fun physics engines and are not very linear. i like action based first-person shooters like doom or serious sam. i like games that are graphically violent [i bought soldier of fortune for full price when it came out simply because the violence level was very neato, and yes, enjoyed it]. i like ut2004, and i guess that'd be the most current game i have enjoyed much. i have played punisher, postal 2, max payne 2... and i can't really say much else that's remotely current. the most recent racing game i played on pc was nfsu and i didn't really get much out of it, the physics seemed wrong... i don't like the constraints of arcade-style racing, but games like 1nsane, open-ended shit with unique or neato physics engines.. i can get into that. oh, i already have flatout. it's okay.

what i guess i'm looking for is a decent fps and a decent racing game. fps should have over-the-top violence. was considering doom 3 with the expansion pack, but need advice. i choose framerate over quality most of the time, but i do want to have decent gore effects. i don't use shit like fsaa, i prefer character geometric/texture quality to environment texture/geometric detail most of the time as well.. i don't mind having a shitty looking world as long as i'm blowing the fuck out of reasonably detailed creatures. what do you guys suggest/what have you been enjoying? is doom3 worth it [and will it run on my system without being supergay?]

also suggest a racing title please.

my specs:
geforce4 ti4200 [128mb ram]
512mb ram
athlonxp 2600+ [2.08GHz]

danke.

If not, do so immediately. It will satisfy your vehicular/1nsane urges to the max. San Andreas is coming soon for PC too.

Doom3 is a nice ride but the ending sucks. Other than that, right now I'm stuck playing RE 4 (kickas ass, but not for PC), and the only similar game I can think on PC is Silent Hill 2 (maybe the 3 has been released?).

Other than that, The Ur-Quan Masters is good and long, but you need to dig olschool DOS games to stand the graphics style.

dean has san andreas on ps2 and it's okay but it bores me pretty quickly, i don't like that engine, to be honest, maybe the pc version will be somewhat better though.

i never played that series... resident evil kinda fucked me on psx and i always assumed silent hill was just like that... do you think i'd like it? what really got me about RE was the controls. i fucking hated those controls, man. good god. i love zombies and spooky shit, i even liked american mcgee's alice and clive barker's undying.. just kinda passed on survival horror after RE was so boring [because of those controls].
