SubjectUhh, Nightwish? Is this like renaissance rock? new Reply to this message

So I downloaded some random CD from usenet a long time ago and now I'm listening to it. It sounds like renaissance rock or something; not quite goth. It's kinda entertaining because the guy will be rockin out (singing) and right when you think he's gonna start singing like a chick THE chick starts singing. It's kinda fun to listen to.

Sometimes.

Other times, not so much.

I know nothing about this band. She's got a jawline like mine though, and that kind of freaks me out.

EDIT: Is that even the same chick?

Found out about it back in 1998... couldn't stop listening to their disc, though I haven't really followed since their second release (/not a big music listener).

I call all that generic stuff Symphorock (private joke). If you like the style, check out groups like Symphony X, Stratovarious, and Rhapsody.

The guy singing on this album, their very first (which was supposed to be only a demo) is the guy playing keyboards, and now he sticks to that, wise decision. Anyway, there's really not a bunch of songs where he sings. Still, it's a good album, Elvenpath and Know Why are splendid power metal songs.

They were known as a power metal band with the 2 following albums, Oceanborn (their best IMO) and Wishmaster. 2 superbs albums, highly recommended A+++++++. Then things changed, they got a new bass player, who's also a singer in his other band (Tarot) with his brother. The 4th album they released, Century Child, was something different, more commercial and weaker, even tho it had good reviews. From now on you could say they were an operatic metal band, or something like that you know. It showed with the next and latest album, Once, which was even more commercial and boring. It even has a song with cheap techno beats as bass drum, urgh. But the people like it, that shit sells, grow in popularity all over the world. Too bad they forgot their roots. These albums still have a few descent songs, but it's far from being another Oceanborn or Wishmaster. The first album is really something different from all of them, softer than all of them but showing indications of the masterpiece that will follow.

I saw them 3 times live, could have seen them 5 times but I had enough after 3. The first two shows (2 days in a row) were awesome, they were for the Wishmaster tour. One of those shows I saw even made it on the DVD From Wishes To Eternity which I also recommend.

We had a lot of requests for Nightwish songs when I was on a power metal radio show with a friend, and I know my shit.

gonna buy tickets for Angra tonight, BRAZIL OWNS ME DOODZ
oh and my uncle is taking me to Iron Maiden in july, we're the only city in the province that's getting them, in your face Montreal
