I'm putting together a little montage for a presentation and i just need a program to cut out some select portions of a divx/xvid/wahtever and convert them to VCD/SVCD.
That and a program to do some splicing together, sound editing, adding text, etc. The only one i've used was Adode Premiere, i'd be pretty confident about using that, but i'm not sure if my brother still has the CD for the older version, and i don't know if that old version will work in XP.

Can anybody give me some pointers, i don't need anything fancy, just cutting up the movie, editing so that some portions have the sound muted, fading between scenes, etc. and that in the end i can export it out in VCD/SVCD format.
