Startopia (Hitchhiker's Guide To the Galaxy meets Theme Hospital)
Darwinia (haven't played, looks interesting)
Re:Volt (oldie but goodie)
Tropico (become El Presidente)

Or to support our friends the freeware guys:
Out of Order (good Lucasart-type adventure game)
The Ur-Quan Masters
GTA (the first one)

Meh there's probably some new stuff too, but haven't played many new things recently.

The original X-Wing and Tie Fighter games with all those awesome addon campaign packages too.

Also and w/the addons or not (2 per game) Wing Commander 1 and 2.

Both of those series' of games there have win9x updates to em and both work in 2K/Xp as wlel (well tie/xw need a patch, but i linked it in the gen em forum.)

Xwing was great, but requiring you to complete the secondary objectives made a few of those missions too god damn hard. I remember playing through that whole damn game using a gravis gamepad because I just didn't know any better. I wish I still had those kinds of skills, heh.

Tie Fighter fixed pretty much every complaint I had about XWing, but I couldn't play it with the gourad shading turned on unless I wanted it to run slower than Vortex on the SNES :( Cursed 25mhz cpu.

Wing Commander 1 and 2....now THOSE were fucking brilliant. The storylines really pulled you in and you really felt like you were a major part of the war. The hatred for the cats burned deep and by god, I shead a tear or two for my fallen wingmen :( The storyline in 2 in particular was solid gold and it's a damn shame that none of the other games in the series have really managed to match its greatness.

Never have been able to get it working perfectly in DOSbox. Do you have a .conf file for it offhand? I played through Wing Commander in DOSbox when it was first compatible with it (using my sidewinder percision pro..it was sex) and then Tie Fighter (win95 edition...just happened to work fine on my box, thank god) notlong after.. good times, good times.

Have you played the remake of Privateer yet? Outside of some performance gripes and the fact that the asteroids aren't all that deadly in the remake, I've had quite a good time with it. Never much cared for the storyline, but I sure as shit loved hunting retros and running contraband. Tripling up on missions to make shit loads of money quick rocked, too.

Yeah, but... I've found it weird, to say the least. It feels like some stuff is missing - and although I know it's a lot of work to do something like it, it still feels unpolished.

No doubt that it will get better in the future. Like that Star Control 3D remake...

Just because you said a ton there Roushi I'm just not going to quote.

As far as XW same reason it pissed me off, but I finished it. All to me it really needed was the OBJECTIVES and MAP screens in Tie and it would be as perfect.

Now as far as Wing Commander 1 and 2. You any chance familiar with the name 'Wing Commander: Kilrathi Saga'? Probably not due to the flaming assholes at EA (the evil alliance.) Origin I'm guessing about 6mo before the take over put out a WIN9X/ME 4 CD set of games which had WC1->3 on them (disc 1 was WC1+2) fixed up with no speed throttling issues for Win9X/ME (2K/XP works 100% too.) I bought it way way back...was able to sell it for $120 on egay, but as I only hated WC3 I burnt disc 1 and kept it. >:] So...NO I don't need a stupid dosbox or conf file, it's native... and the SpecOps missions (1 and 2 for WC 1 and 2 so 4 total) are online for this build as well!!

So basically with these 2 sets of games I've done the DOS ver of XW and Tie, then the WIn9X TIE CD that came with a 2lb book over an inch thick, and then did WC1+2 DOS and the Win9X/XP experience. Back on DOS I did both those titles using a very very old flightstick (white base/2 button red/black stick and even earlier WC1 on a simple very first Wingman/Thrustmaster black small square one with big stick.... so never tried to suffer it with a gravis pad.)

Privateer I never really got into but I had the CD...something just bugged me lacking the driving story of 1 and 2 just spoiled me I suppose as the gameplay was the same (aside from building your own arsenal.) I do have the newer (recreate) of Privateer though for the GBA and it's damn shocking amazingly good.

If you can find that wing commander thing online it would be short of a damn miracle (far as warezing goes) as I've never seen it except overpriced on egay.

All too painfully. When it came out I didn't bother buying it because I already had the original games and didn't see a need to rebuy them. At the time, I wasn't aware they they had been fixed up for Win9x AND I had no idea that it had a super limited production run. Over the years I've seen it slowly increase in price on ebay and I keep kicking myself in the ass for not jumping on it when I had the chance :(

The GBA remake of Wing Commander Prophecy pisses me off to no end. They could easilly have recreated the game using the traditional sprite-based style of Wing Commander 1 and 2, but they decided to try to make the GBA do polygons (something it does quite poorly whereas it handles sprites quite well) and that just killed it for me. It looks like shit and plays like shit, so...meh.

IIRC The Underdogs has the Kilrathi Saga versions online.
