Roushi pretty much covered everything, but i think it's really a great game.

If you want, you can download and register with steam, and there should be a download link in steam for a demo, and give that shot. Day of defeat source will be out this summer, which you get free with the silver edition (it was supposed to be a straight port like hl:s was, but too many people complained, so they giving it an overhaul.)

HL:S is really good too. I liked how they kept the graphics identical, but just change some minor aspects (water, physics, and other small changes). Source also runs smoother and feels a little more faster. Also, if you have a widescreen monitor, source will give it a true widescreen resolution, given it's a 16:9 or 16:10.
