what can i use to compress avi ?
i got virtualdub, and its working (althrough it stutters a bit every few seconds (the video skips a frame or two)) but its doing uncompressed avi (100mb per minute, argh!)

Also, this skipping, can it be my computer? or my crap and slow hdd ?

Anyway, thanks to both roushi and nadz, since i got both softwares, and they make wonders.

i know that probably roushi will teach me how to compress the videos ny hardcore, i dont need very high quality, just medium quality (small size) would be great.

EDIT : Also, is there any Genesis emulators that can record videos ? If not, and you can record a Genesis video, can you pm please ?
Thanks again.

I use TMPGEnc to compress my videos to either MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 files.

If you're looking to do Divx (otherwise known as MPEG-4) compression, then you can continue to use VirtualDub as it will use the Divx codec to do the compression.

Check your privates for some help in the encoding area.

A tutorial.

Videohelp.com - great informational site.

I'm STILL Rick James, bitch

Grab the latest Xvid binary from here. Don't be afraid to get the unstable binary, it's all good in the hood. You'll probably also need to get some hacked mp3 codecs unless you want to get all ninja-technical with using LAME and whatnot (using LAME with VirtualDub desynchs audio, so you have to do the audio in a seperate program). Fuck that, I say.. if you're going to mp3, just use the "Radium MP3" pack. It's warez out the motherfucker since it's hacked Fraunhofer codecs, but ...ehhh...

if you want to go to OGM or MKV, on the other hand, you could just use OGG for the audio (I like OGG)

Also, I recommend going to an h.264 compatible codec. Xvid and Divx are MPEG4 (part 2) whereas h.264 is MPEG4 (part 10). Click me for a boring writeup
click me for x264, an open source mpeg4 part 10 codec

skipping in playback? Probably your computer. Nuke your codecs you have installed right now and replace with the latest FFDshow from the x264 page.

Sadly, that's the one feature Fusion lacks. If it had included that, it'd literally be perfect as far as i'm concerned :(

However, someone has modified Gens!
It's not nearly as good as Fusion, but it'll do!

i donīt know what i want.. i want somewhat not horrible quality and small file size, 320x240 at some good frame rate is more than enough.

I will read through all that (and the pm).

seem complicated, what is the easiest to use ?

i like ogg too. is it easy to use ?

actually is it skipping when recording video. i set up a cam and in preview it goes nicely and easy, but when i click capture, it stutters every few seconds, and it record the video stuttered (is thatīs a word) because i played back in 3 different computer, and the video stutters at the exact same points.

thanks.

a final question, if i record in uncompressed avi, letīs say, 6 minutes of video, how long it will take for my computer to compress it ?

For you and for people watching your stuff, using those hacked Fraunhofer codecs is the easiest thing to do. Blame it on people not being smart enough to use ffdshow :(

Ok, that's your hard drive. Use huffyuv, a lossless codec that doesn't take up nearly as much hard drive space. Might need to tweak it a little bit.

Also, defrag the fuck out of your PC before you capture video

Depends on the speed of your PC, if you have an AMD or Intel processor, the resolution of the file, if you're doin multiple passes (as you should be!) and a number of other factors.
