I like how everyone thinks that every new game should run flawlessly in super high detail and super high resolution on their gaming rig.

It's still choppy in places...eh.. the trajectory and recoil of the weapons is a bit ridiculous anyway..hard to shoot those fuckers.

If you want to play FEAR at an even remotely acceptable level you need to dish out cake to play it on a nice card. I found that out recently when my wife bought it for me for XMas. It's a slideshow. Your statement has validity since PC game companies hopped in the sack with videocard manufacturers to ultimately build games that can't even be rendered at 60fps with a $500 card at the time of their release. It's ridiculous. You end up buying a new PC for nextgen games. No word of a lie, FEAR has turned me off to PC gaming altogether if their operating model is to make me fork out $200 a year plus the price of a new game to play it at low detail.

It doesn't take a powerhouse to run the game at an acceptable level, and it's nothing new to have a game that requires a machine from a year or two in the future to run it at the highest detail settings. Origin was famous for this in the early 90s and Unreal Tournament 2003 caught flak for including detail options which couldn't be enabled because the videocards capable of handling it didn't exist yet.

F.E.A.R. is your typical Monolith FPS: it's a sex sandwich comprised of bread, sex, and bread. Drop those detail settings and enjoy it for the badassity that it is.

But yea, I more or less quit on PC gaming as well because of the insane system requirements and my inability to keep up with my upgrades. I've found it much more rewarding to just rape the unholy shit out of used game stores and bargain bins, fleshing out my PS2 and XBox collections.

1024X768. My cheap old X700 is doing pretty well, and now that I've "tuned in" to the difficulty level of the badasses, I am enjoying it acutally pretty immensely. It is now a challenge, not impossible. Perhaps it's just been awhile since I've played a balls out shooter like this. I jumped a few times so far, but no pants browning yet. I am at the level just before that cannibal guy I think..Exeunt Omnes it's called. But it stands to reason it is games like this that make gamers claim chapter 11 dude =P
