devil driver opened for gwar on new year's eve. a lot of kids were there because some goddamned local radio station was talking the show up. there were a lot of slipknot shirts but we knew who the real fans were by their indifference to the opening bands and their status as senior citizens. i feel old at 18+ shows, i'm such a bastard. anyway, we hung away from the stage playing pool and drinking at the bar until right before gwar came on, us ornery old fuckers, making fun of the opening acts. then we rushed the stage to claim our place in the pit like giddy schoolchildren.

although i was not close enough to analyze them very thoroughly, devil driver sounded like shit. the only thing i remember about the sound was it was attempted-cookie monster vocals that failed at anything passing for listenability, and riffs that would have been repetitive if the guitarists could play with technical skill.

oh, near the end of the set the guy said 'okay this is some shit from our new album', and proceeded to play a couple songs identical to the previous 6. fags.
