I hope the rest of you savages did the same. My call was laced with bad news, unfortunatly.

Our dog, who turned 17 this year, hasn't been doing too good recently. Her eyesight is going out, she's been losing a lot of weight, and her hearing is mostly gone. She still seems happy and perky now and then, but more often than not she's depressed and tired; exhibiting strained movements and having trouble getting around.

My parents are going to put her down in 4 weeks.

It really hurts me deep because I haven't been able to be around her a whole lot in the last few years (which is actually my main regret about joining the military). She was damn near the perfect dog and honestly, I don't know if I'll ever be able to love a dog as much as her again.

We've been kicking around the idea of getting a puppy, but really it'd be more for the wife than myself. Everytime I see a dog I think of my doggie back home, and right about now I'm pretty damn depressed.
