We used to have 2 alsations/german shepherds. The breed has a tendency to get dodgy hips and we had to have both put down within about a year of each other. We got a puppy very soon afterwards, and having another cute dependent little fur-ball did make it easier to forget. She died 3 years ago too, though. All 3 dogs still feature in my dreams, and I miss them - more than (say) my grandparents, who didn't feature as much in my life.
